A classic example is between sales and marketing \u2013 sales needs to bring in leads and revenue, while marketing may be more focused on building brand awareness. This can lead to not only misfires between departments, but also ineffective outcomes. For example, the marketing team creates brochures that the sales team do not need or cannot use.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBreaking down silos starts with understanding. Teams must consider what the goals are of other departments or groups,\u201d said Stuart Harris, <strong>Co-Founder &amp; Managing Director,<\/strong> Team Building Asia. \u201cThis empathy doesn\u2019t miraculously happen. It needs to be built and fostered with activities and processes that create real collaboration.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>To help you out of your silos, we\u2019ve come up with 7 tips &#8212; start collaborating in an effective way today!\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Lead by example.<\/strong> Managers can set the example for the rest of the team. <\/li>\n<li><strong>Be proactive<\/strong>. Silos happen when people aren\u2019t motivated or incentivised to reach out and improve communication. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>3.<strong>Visit people (in real life).<\/strong> Nothing helps more than sitting next to someone and discussing issues. A good video connection is the next best thing.<br \/><strong><\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<p>4.<strong> <\/strong><strong>Bring back the \u2018water cooler\u2019.<\/strong> Help team members connect by giving them a dedicated space or area that is always open. For teams not in the same office consider an always-on video conferencing set up.\n<\/p>\n<p>5.<strong> <\/strong><strong>Cross-functional groups with common goals<\/strong>. Aligned goals help teams work   together.\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Adopt the<\/strong> <strong>right tools<\/strong>. Email is not a great communication tool \u2013 consider instant chat or similar tools like Slack, to help with communication. <\/li>\n<li><strong><\/strong><strong>Clarify responsibilities and roles<\/strong>.
