<p>There’s recently been a lot of back and forth for employees: working from home, back to the office full time, back to home, back in split teams, back to working from home, back to the office but only if you have a negative RAT test in the morning, and so on. This is exhausting.</p>
<p>According to a Future Forum report, 72% of employees said they do not want to go back to the traditional way of office working and desire a hybrid-remote office model going forward.</p>
<p>It’s time to move forward and build up a stable work model. The hybrid office model is a combination of remote and on-site work. Employees now expect the flexibility of remote work along with in-person time with team.</p>
<p>Here’s how you can make the hybrid model work for your team:</p>
<p>1. Select the right hybrid model. There are different options for the hybrid model: remote-first, office-occasional, office-first and remote-allowed. Choose the option that works best for your workforce and organisation. Then, work out a hybrid plan to promote stability.</p>
<p>2. Determine where leadership works. Leadership plays a huge part in a successful hybrid model. If leadership needs to be working on-site, the culture will unintentionally become an office-first culture, but having leadership work remotely, will help remote employees feel more comfortable.</p>
<p>3. Be aware of bias. It’s important to recognise and reward your employees equally, regardless of whether or not they are working in or out of the office. This can be mitigated by having leadership work primarily remotely.</p>
<p>4. Consistency is key. Organisations should try to give their in-office and remote workers the same consistency in experience, keeping the remote workers in mind when organising meetings so that everyone has the same experience.</p>
<p>5. Active listening. Organisations need to listen actively to their employees and plan accordingly. If employees feel that in-person meetings are more useful but don’t want to travel to the office, maybe it’s time to step away from the traditional working model. This also goes for non-verbal communication during meetings. Organisations should learn to pay attention to the employees’ non-verbal cues when discussing this topic because there’s still some sort of taboo around remote work.</p>
<p>6. Build a strong culture. For a hybrid working model to be successful, it’s advisable to build an organisational culture that everyone resonates with. It should be echoed frequently.</p>
<p>7. Team cohesiveness. It’s important to promote inclusiveness and conduct activities for everyone to get the chance to connect with each other. This can be done through daily huddle meetings, weekly incentives or one-off events like a hybrid team-building activity.</p>
<p>The future of work is not static, and people still need to remain flexible, however, there are ways to stabilise change and providing them with stability will increase their productivity and wellbeing. In fact, research has shown that when executed correctly, hybrid working models can allow organisations to recruit stronger talent, achieve successful innovation and build a productive future.</p>
<p>However, in order to make a successful transition to a hybrid working model, organisations should choose the right model for their workforce, stick to it and actively implement it.</p>

<p>Exit interviews can provide valuable insights into company culture, practices and management. </p>
<p>Conduct exit interviews a few days before an employee’s last day because their views of their team, work and the company are still fresh in their minds. Employees also tend to be more eager to share their final opinions right before leaving.</p>
<p>It also gives you an opportunity to leave them with a positive image of the company (whether or not they are leaving on good or bad terms). It makes the employee feel valued and builds goodwill for your organisation.</p>
<p>In order for an exit interview to be fruitful, it’s important to select the right questions. Here are 9 key questions to ask in a (virtual) exit interview:</p>
<ol>
<li>Why did you initially choose to work for our organisation, benefits and advantages? Was this fulfilled when we had you onboard? </li>
<li>In terms of employee engagement, performance, and loyalty, what would you alter about our company if you had the chance? </li>
<li>What can we do to improve our organisation’s training and development, upskilling and coaching?</li>
<li>Do you believe our current D&amp;I policies are adequate? If not, have you ever been the victim of workplace discrimination or harassment?</li>
<li>What were the three most difficult challenges you faced while working at our organisation?</li>
<li>How helpful were your team and your manager for your job? </li>
<li>Was there enough support when working remotely? Did you feel comfortable with this transition or is there anything you would do differently?</li>
<li>What motivated you to start looking for a new job? And what made you make the move?</li>
<li>What are the benefits of your new job that influenced your decision to leave? </li>
</ol>
<p>An exit interview is more of a conversation than an interview, keep it relaxed and listen to what the employee has to say, make sure they feel understood. Always try to end it on a positive note.</p>

<p>Onboarding is a crucial step in any company’s talent acquisition process. But how do you do that remotely? Yes, video conferencing plays a big role but what else can you do to successfully onboard a remote employee and make them feel at home? Here are 6 factors of virtual onboarding that can help you create a smooth process:</p>
<p>1. <strong>Prepare your tech in advance</strong>. For your new hire, it’s nicer to have everything set up on day one, rather than leaving it to them to try and sort it out themselves with IT, particularly for larger companies who might have overloaded IT teams at the moment.  </p>
<p>2.<strong> Plan training documents in advance</strong>. Arrange to have the employee handbook and other useful tools delivered before the new employee’s first day. This also gives you the opportunity to throw in a little something extra like branded stationery.</p>
<p>3. <strong>Structure training sessions</strong>. People learn by doing, not by watching a video or listening to a podcast. <p>There are things you might want to consider before starting to build a successful hybrid workplace model.</p>
<p>Here’s a checklist:</p>

<li>What are your needs – and what are your employees’ needs?</li>
</ol>

<p>Does your business model require an office or can it work perfectly remotely? But also listen to your employees’ desires, do they feel like working from home is sufficient or maybe they cannot wait to return to the office?</p>

<ol>
<li>But what if they don’t want to return to the office?</li>
</ol>
</li>
</ol>
<p>Then maybe there’s a deeper problem you should work on – is there enough trust and communication in your office? How are the facilities? How’s the cultural climate? Does everyone feel at ease? Have you invested in your employee’s well-being?</p>
<ol>

<ol>
<li>What strikes the right balance between work and wellness? These go hand in hand: when employees feel at ease, they’ll automatically be more productive and will consequently generate better business results.</li>
<li>Do you need all the resources you had before?</li>

<p>Many companies have decided to downgrade or to trade their private office for a coworking space. As the current economic climate has presented many financial challenges, consider if this is worth the change for you. Going hybrid can mean you always rotate shifts and therefore only have 50% of your workforce in the office. It’s all about balance.</p>
<p>If you have successfully replied to these questions and they all point in the same direction, then you can heartily decide whether you want to go for a virtual, hybrid or in-person workplace – either way resilience and adaptability are clearly key in today’s changing market.</p>

<p>Since last year, we have all become familiar with working remotely. As we go back and forth, working remotely or in-office whenever we need or can, we can establish a hybrid workplace model. However, sudden changes can still throw us off quickly as we need to shift our schedules and they can have a high impact on mental health.</p>
<p>Whether you’re working at a fully remote company or simply have a handful of distributed workers, there are steps you can take to overcome the challenges of remote work and make it easier on everyone. Here are 5 tips to build a strong and resilient remote workforce:</p>
<ol>
<li>Make work accessible and easy to find – create simplicity in procedures and make everything accessible online, this makes remote work so much easier</li>
<li>Create opportunities for making personal connections</li>
<li>Learn how best to communicate with individual members – remote workers don’t have the luxury to show when they are busy or not, they can end up being interrupted so frequently that they start making themselves less and less available to teammates. Consider having team members proactively share communication preferences.</li>
<li>Hold weekly team meetings that include everyone – depending on your needs and resources.</li>
<li>Share daily updates to build awareness of what’s happening no matter where everyone’s working from.</li>
</ol>
<p>Start connecting and strengthening your remote team. Managing a remote team is about keeping alignment, developing healthy communication habits and fostering the connections that help you and your team work better together. Create that culture and build connections. This is guaranteed to pay off in the long run.</p>
